With Southeast Asia set to become the fastest growing region for co-location data centres within the next five years, ABB, together with local partner, PT Vektordaya Mekatrik is using its latest generation PowerWave 33 UPS to provide an uninterruptable source of electrical power to IndoKeppel Data Centre 1 (IKDC1) in Indonesia.
Jakarta and its outlying municipalities currently offer 75 MW of data centre co-location capacity and with demand expected to quadruple in size over the next three to five years, said ABB.
ABB added that growth will largely be driven by greater connectivity and major expansion of the e-commerce sector— which has risen by 37% over the last 12 months— and the Indonesian government is committed to implementing IoT infrastructure technology for roads, streetlights, and traffic signals.
IKDC1, a joint development between local Indonesian conglomerate Salim Group and Keppel Data Centre, will be developed over three phases in a 7-hectare data centre campus and its first phase will feature a gross floor area of approximately 105,300 square feet.
The facility— a high-availability carrier-neutral data centre— is targeted for operational delivery in 2021 and will offer future development capacity for clients to scale up their IT infrastructure effectively in Indonesia. When in operation, it will offer concurrent maintainability standards for power and cooling for hyper scale cloud players, financial institutions, and local enterprises.
