The COVID-19 pandemic has ensured that a series of safe management measures are in place before individuals are able to step back into the community.

Institutes of Higher Learning are of no exception, as demonstrated by Singapore education provider PSB Academy.

As schools were allowed to reopen in June 2020, during Phase 2 of the country’s re-opening after the imposition of a circuit breaker, PSB Academy leveraged digital technologies and installed a Smart Gantry system to ensure that students and staff were able to return to campus in a safe manner.

By using technology to implement contactless screening and tracing abilities, PSB Academy improved its temperature screening capabilities and minimise unnecessary physical contact between the staff and students to mitigate the risk of infection.

With the Smart Gantry system, students and staff can enter the premises via facial recognition, reducing the number of touch points by eliminating the need to scan access cards. The system also has an automated temperature screening features which can deny the entry of any individual with a fever.

Moreover, the system can track students and staff who are on stay-home notice and bar them from entering the campus.

The Smart Gantry system offers PSB Academy an efficient means of controlling access into the premises, using less than 5 seconds to scan everyone with an accuracy rate of ±0.3°C.

Moving forward, PSB Academy is exploring to integrate the system with national mobile apps SingPass and TraceTogether.
