M1 partners with Nokia to drive Singapore’s 5G ecosystem

M1 will be using Nokia’s 5G standalone Core to build a secure, containerised and cloud-native 5G standalone Core to enhance Singapore’s 5G ecosystem

Nokia and M1 have signed a partnership agreement to deploy Nokia’s cloud-native Core software – that has been enhanced with machine learning and artificial intelligence – to drive Singapore’s 5G standalone network launch this year.

The 5G standalone Core was developed with open-source and licensed software components consisting mainly of 5G cloud-native Core and Cloud Packet Core software. It will provide M1 with the scalability and flexibility to efficiently deliver network capabilities, such as cloud gaming and immersive experience applications, for their Singaporean 5G customers.

The 5G standalone Core is also equipped with their Network Services Platform (NSP) that allows operators to design and automate network slices for industrial use cases – such as unmanned aerial or road vehicles, remote operations, wireless e-health, digital banking, and smart manufacturing.

Moreover, application developers will be able to connect to the 5G standalone Core, and Communication and Security Edge Protection Proxy Function with the deployment of Nokia’s Network Exposure Function.

Keppel’s data centre will host the Core platform. Its infrastructure will be powered by Nokia’s Airframe servers and spine leaf switches, and secured using Nokia’s NetGuard suite that includes firewall and certification management.
