Autonomous vehicles will help the retailer improve supply chain efficiency.

Singapore’s FairPrice Group (FPG) is testing autonomous vehicle (AV) deliveries between supplier and retailer. The pilot, conducted in partnership with beverage company Pokka, covers a 6km round trip between FPG’s distribution centre and Pokka’s warehouse in Benoi.

The company said the initiative is aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of stock replenishment, ensuring supermarket shelves remain consistently stocked. The trial is also a part of a broader strategy to transform its supply chain through technology amid rising logistics costs and growing geopolitical uncertainty.

“FPG’s supply chain is the foundation of our entire organisation, and fundamental in helping us keep daily essentials within reach for all in Singapore,” said Vipul Chawla, Group CEO of FPG.

“This pilot represents an important next step on our journey to embed innovation beyond our business, across our value chain to drive greater operational and sustainability outcomes for ourselves and our partners,” he added.

Future plan to fully operate autonomous vehicles

FPG began testing the route in late February. The company said that once Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) approves the route for fully remote operations, the movement of goods between Pokka’s warehouse and FPG’s distribution centre will be handled entirely by autonomous vehicles.

The retailer plans to use the pilot as a blueprint for similar routes with other suppliers across Singapore if the initiative proves successful.

The move builds on FPG’s earlier progress in autonomous logistics. In October 2025, the retailer became the first in Singapore to receive LTA approval to fully remotely operate autonomous vehicles on public roads.

FPG already deploys autonomous vehicles to transport palletised goods between its distribution centres. The company currently conducts more than 100 AV trips each week, with every trip capable of carrying up to 1.5 tonnes of ambient produce, packaged goods and other daily essentials.

The retailer currently operates a fleet of seven autonomous vehicles and plans to expand that number to nearly 30 in the coming years.

According to FPG, each autonomous vehicle reduces the amount of time employees spend on repetitive manual work, allowing them to focus on higher-value tasks. The vehicles also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 27 tonnes annually.
