Singapore-based Grab has acquired Infermove, a Chinese artificial intelligence and robotics company, to enhance automated delivery capabilities.

The acquisition will support Grab’s efforts to enhance first-mile and last-mile logistics operations.

Infermove’s solutions will complement Grab's existing delivery network and support the company’s continued growth.

Infermove will continue to operate independently under its existing management team.

Founder Aaron Lu will report directly to Grab’s chief technology officer, Suthen Thomas.

Founded in 2021, Infermove specialises in autonomous driving systems for unstructured environments and mobile manipulation robots.

Its product portfolio includes sidewalk delivery robots with upper-limb manipulation capabilities and personal mobility robots.

The company leverages real-world driving data from non-motorised vehicles, including delivery riders’ electric scooters, to train autonomous delivery robots.

Through imitation learning and reinforcement learning, Infermove enables robots to adapt to complex last-mile delivery environments.

Infermove has developed a proprietary Rider Shadow System to collect training data using last-mile mobility devices.

Prior to the acquisition, Infermove had raised at least US$3.3 million from investors, including Miracle Plus.
