DSTA deploys air-gapped cloud for Singapore’s defence operations

To harness AI in a pilot collaboration with Oracle.

By Kumar Gandharv on Mar 19, 2025 1:09PM

Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) is deploying Oracle Cloud Isolated Region to support the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

The solution will enhance the SAF’s Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) functions, modernising digital capabilities with scalability and performance.

This will be an air-gapped cloud that delivers compute, security, storage, and networking services in an on-premises environment that is disconnected from the internet and linked only to classified networks via encrypted devices.

It will keep data within Singapore’s borders, ensure secure storage and management, and use AI to process information and enhance decision-making.

DSTA chief executive, Ng Chad-Son, said through this pilot collaboration with Oracle, the aim is to harness advanced cloud and AI technologies to digitalise and transform operations.

Under this agreement, the Digital and Intelligence Service can leverage AI-driven cloud services to enhance analytics and enable better decision-making in the SAF’s operations.

With AI integration, MINDEF can process data securely to improve threat detection, resource management, and strategic planning.
