Indonesia’s bookstore chain, PT Gramedia Asri Media (Gramedia) has adopted RFID-enabled retail solutions to modernise operations and enhance customer experience.

The solution allows shoppers to perform self-checkout and reduce shrinkage through improved inventory tracking and RFID-enabled exit gates.

This has reduced inventory checking time by 50 percent and made self-checkout for shoppers 60 percent faster than manual checkout by cashiers.

Gramedia has selected Zebra Technologies’ solutions.

It has worked with PT Duta Kalingga Pratama (DKP) to implement and deploy the solution.

The company is using Zebra’s FX7500 fixed RFID reader and AN610 low-profile RFID antenna as part of its self-checkout solution.

For the RFID-enabled exit gates, it is using Zebra’s FX9600 fixed RFID reader, AN480 and AN440 wide-band RFID antennas.

Zebra’s RFID has helped Gramedia to improve stock accuracy by 50 percent and minimise human error.

Gramedia’s IT manager, Agus Yulianto, said Zebra's RFID solutions have improved shopping experience by enabling faster, independent transactions, reducing human error, and minimising losses with the establishment of RFID-enabled exit gates.

It will enhance operational efficiency in terms of stock-taking, Yulianto added.

With the solutions, the bookstore chain is able to redistribute 75 percent of staff hours from basic tasks to shopper-valued activities.

Additionally, it has also helped to improve stock accuracy by 50 percent and minimised human error.
