Singapore has signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) with the UK to further boost cooperation in cybersecurity, data cooperation, connectivity and artificial intelligence (AI).
The agreement was reached between the UK’s Department of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI), and the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office.
Singapore's Minister for Communications and Information, Josephine Teo and UK Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden signed the two MoUs.
According to MCI, the new agreements will further boost the S$19.54 billion a year services trade between the countries.
Teo said the new MoUs build on three recent agreements with the UK on Digital Trade Facilitation, Digital Identity and Cybersecurity.
The countries have agreed to share experiences of building their 5G networks, promoting business partnerships on AI, building trustworthy AI, and setting technical standards for the use of AI.
The UK National Health Service and Singapore’s National AI Office will carry out research to understand how AI can improve health services and support for patients.
Both countries will look at using data to improve public services, discuss data regulation, and share best practices on data management in government and with businesses.
Dowden said emerging technologies like AI present challenges and opportunities, and by cooperating on research, regulation and experience of how to use them in government – countries can deliver efficient public services.
