Singlife with Aviva migrates to AWS to offer ‘personalised’ services

With enhanced digital capabilities.

By Abbinaya Kuzhanthaivel on Dec 5, 2022 9:00AM

Singapore’s homegrown financial services company Singlife with Aviva is migrating its entire information technology (IT) infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance its digital capabilities and offer personalised services for customers.

Singlife with Aviva’s Group Head of Technology and Operations, Romil Sharma, said the company's cloud-first strategy has enabled it to deploy technology with upgraded data analytic capabilities to provide consumers with “hyper-personalised experiences” and achieve financial freedom.

Prior to its merger with Aviva Singapore in 2022, Singlife built its digital-first service model on AWS to support its consumers in Singapore and the Philippines.

It needed a consumer-first platform for digital transactions and financial engagement. With the company’s data stored in disparate environments had been challenging to build new consumer services, Sharma said.

Singlife with Avivia is now closing on-premises data centres and migrating its Aviva IT workloads to AWS.

Sharma said they could improve their speed in delivering new products with unified data capabilities. “AWS powers all our new user interfaces to elevate consumer experience for more than 1.5 million customers,” he added.

“We built a data repository with an integrated platform from Snowflake, an AWS partner and data cloud company. This platform helps us securely load, integrate, analyse, and share data on AWS to make better data-driven decisions,” Sharma said.

Amazon RDS

Singlife manages data from the repository using Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), a service that helps AWS customers set up, operate, and scale a relational database in the cloud.

Using AWS, the firm said it can now securely share datasets with partners and regulators to improve consumer experiences with new financially-compliant services.

With Amazon SageMaker, the service that enables data scientists and developers to build, train, and deploy machine learning models quickly, Singlife could easily build models to automatically deliver personalised insurance policy recommendations for consumers in real-time, Sharma said.

Amazon Connect, an easy-to-use omnichannel cloud contact centre service has helped the firm develop a robust omnichannel contact centre for its MySinglife portal that handles queries and policy purchasing for customers.

For implementations, Singlife had to upskill its workforce for technical operations and management. AWS developed a tailored training programme for us to nurture our cloud-driven workforce, Sharma said.

The company has planned to complete the entire migration by the end of 2023.
