Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) has partnered with IBM Singapore, to introduce Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) modules in its Diploma in Information Technology (IT) course at the post-secondary level.
Under this partnership, IBM will help NP to develop a customised curriculum that would include immersive training, and learning activities to develop key skills in quantum computing, AI and other emerging technologies from April 2023 onwards.
This will help more than 500 students of NP’s School of InfoComm Technology (ICT) over a three-year period.
Ngee Ann Poly is the first educational institute to introduce these subjects to the post-secondary level curriculum.
NP’s School of InfoComm Technology (ICT) Director, Patrice Choong, said that institutes of higher learning play an “integral role” in helping students keep pace with technological advances that are impacting the future economy.
This calls for collaborations with industry players such as IBM to deepen students’ skill sets in emerging areas such as Quantum Computing and AI that enable better employability for graduates in the workplaces of tomorrow, Choong added.
Students will get opportunities to “connect” with the IBM Quantum Advocate Team, which brings together educators in the growing field of quantum computing for knowledge sharing and exchange of best practices to augment educational experiences.
“They will also gain hands-on experience through AI workshops.”
Additionally, both ICT students and faculty will have “complementary access” to industry-standard software, digital credentials and professional development resources from the IBM SkillsBuild programme.
IBM SkillsBuild offers free learning, support, and resources to foster STEM and new-collar skills from secondary education (students aged 13-18) to entry-level employment.
Students will also gain access to a repository of online learning resources and cloud access for hands-on labs and Red Hat’s training courses.
