IMDA identifies emerging technology trends that will impact future jobs

To help re-skill workers to take up new jobs.

The Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) has released its latest jobs transformation map (JTM) for the Infocomm sector which identifies emerging technology trends that will impact future jobs.

According to IMDA, over the next three to five years, 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics are the emerging technologies that would require a skilled workforce in at least three areas.

These include software engineering, cloud and mobility; and AI and analytics.

Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information, Josephine Teo, launched the JTM on the sidelines of the “5G Learning Festival” and announced that IMDA would be “appointing training partners” to scale up the “reskilling of relevant skills” for the near future.

The JTM will aim to “guide workers” to areas where they can focus their re-skilling or up-skilling efforts.

Additionally, it would serve as a “reference guide for employers” when redesigning jobs and reskilling employees as job roles evolve, or when new ones emerge.

IMDA’s Deputy Chief Executive, Kiren Kumar said that JTM looks to provide a guide for professionals to upskill and re-skill in an ever-changing Digital Economy.

“It further provides a reference for employers to redesign jobs, as well as provide the necessary training and reskilling for their employees to take up new roles as required,” said Kumar.

By next year, training for Singaporeans will be done at scale through appointed training partners under IMDA’s TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) programme, IMDA said.
