Dhipaya Insurance uses Veeam for efficient data backup

Solution can also integrate with AWS.

Thailand’s casualty insurance provider Dhipaya Insurance is using disaster recovery software provider Veeam’s solutions for efficient and easy data backup of systems including enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM).

Dhipaya Insurance’s director of information system and network, Surachai Viboonkitchod, said that Veeam currently backs up about 50 TB (terabytes) of data across 300 virtual machines (VMs) on almost 95 percent of their information technology (IT) systems.

“Previously, it took six hours to backup data per system. We can now perform a full backup on all our systems within half of the required time,” he said.

He added that the data backup can be processed without interrupting the production performance or experiencing any downtime due to maintenance.

With the firm’s target to meet product efficiency and reduce time spent on IT works, the tech team was looking for a solution that was not only easy and flexible but could also safeguard data and keep business operation risk at a minimum.

In this instance, the insurer could integrate Veeam Direct Restore to back data from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Viboonkitchod said.

Improved efficiency

Dhipaya said it has increased its efficiency through an IT performance framework created to carry out operations continuously. This reduced time and cost, thus enhancing operational performance.

“Our data backup and recovery was more effective, even though an enormous amount of data from major systems was backed up every two to three hours,” Viboonkitchod said.

He added that the firm has seen 99 percent availability even when recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) were set at a maximum of 15 minutes.

“When recovery was actually tested, it took much less time than expected.”

Speaking on the investments, Viboonkitchod said his team could make an immediate savings of at least 40 percent with the Veeam solution package for full usage.

He added that the firm is also exploring Veeam’s solutions in monitoring works to reduce the burden on administrators and to produce and store reports for audit checking.
